Ora Banda Mining

To support the rapid development of the Riverina Underground Mine and to facilitate FIFO operations for its staff, RDH was contracted to construct Ora Banda Mining’s airstrip.

The Riverina project is located roughly 45km west of Menzies and 120km northwest of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. 

 

Scope of Works

  • Grubbing and stripping of topsoil in accordance with Company-issued Site Disturbance Permits (SDPs), including the removal of existing vegetation and topsoil stockpiles.

  • Hauling and stockpiling of cleared vegetation and topsoil to Company-designated locations.

  • Remediation of twenty-five (25) existing test pit excavations (1.5 m x 1.5 m x 1.5 m) along the historical runway through backfilling and mechanical compaction.

  • Backfilling of existing drainage channels located to the north and south of the current runway alignment.

  • Establishment, operation, material preparation, and rehabilitation of Company-designated borrow pits and stockpile areas across the site.

  • Foundation preparation and bulk earthworks to form the subgrade and pavement layers for:

    • Runway strip and runway

    • Jet blast and prop wash areas at runway ends

    • Taxiway strip and taxiway

    • Apron area

    • Light vehicle access road

    • Light vehicle car park and landside area

  • Construction and installation of drainage infrastructure.

  • Installation of aerodrome visual aids, including wind direction indicators, wind direction indicator circles, signal circles, signage, and edge markers.

  • Complete dismantling and disposal of the existing perimeter fence, followed by the supply and installation of a new aerodrome boundary fence.

 

Major achievement:

Over 800 compaction tests were conducted throughout the project, with a 100% pass rate and no recorded failures.
